Company History
The Morrill & Janes Bank and Trust Company roots date back to 1871 when Mr. Morrill, Mr. W.B. Barnett and Mr. Lrenzo Janes organized the banking house of Barnett, Morrill & Janes in a room over the stone drug store near the corner of Sixth and Oregon Streets in Hiawatha, KS. Capital for the venture was $1,500.00 provided by the three organizers. In the 1870's Mr. Barnett retired from the bank and went back to Jacksonville, Florida where he organized the Barnett National Bank. By 1887, the Morrill & Janes Bank boasted captial stock of $100,000.00 and the very first charter as a state bank in Kansas.
Today, with the combined capital of United Bank of Kansas, Morrill & Janes Bank has more than $700,00,000 in assets.
The United Bank of Kansas charter dates back to 1902 with continued strength in the depth of banking experience of their owners and management.
